Comforters are blankets made out of thick materials designed to insulate. At times, comforters also serve as mattress pads. It is usually filled with various materials that can give warmth to the user. The common fillings of a comforter are as follows: polyester batting, down feathers, wool, or silk and at times some uses fur. The level of thickness of these materials and its combination will determine the weight of the comforter and at the same time the level of insulation it provides.
Down comforters are considered to be the best comforters out there because of its features. It got its name because the comforter is made from down. Down feathers are feathers of waterfowl like ducks and geese. The feathers of these creatures are light and it has fluffy filaments. The feathers allow air to circulate because it serves double purpose: it keeps the birds warm during cold weather and at the same time cool in the summer. This feature of the feathers is incorporated in the comforters so that we may enjoy the warmth and coolness these feathers have to offer. Down comforter is better than those comforters made out of synthetic materials. Comforters with synthetic materials is humid and it does not let perspiration let out leading to a foul smell and at the same time, synthetic comforters does not adjust to the body heat that we emanate. On the other hand, down comforters, allows air circulation thus when the body heat is too high, it allows air to flow through the material thus it lets perspiration out and minimizes odour. Lastly, down comforters since it is made from the down feathers of waterfowl animals, it is lighter than other comforters thus the user will not be suffocated from using it.
